There is a massive issue of food waste in the U.S.

With 38% of food supply going unsold or uneaten, equating to 78 million tons of waste. This waste results in significant environmental damage through lost resources like water, energy, and labor. It also exacerbates food insecurity, as perfectly good food is discarded instead of reaching those in need. Additionally, food waste leads to financial losses across the supply chain, costing billions annually. Addressing this issue requires actionable solutions to reduce waste and increase sustainability.

The ClearCOGS Impact

The ClearCOGS solution drives sustainability for restaurants by proactively reducing food waste. This not only keeps food out of landfills, where the decomposition can lead to CO2 and Methane emissions, but it also prevents the food from going through the supply chain, diverting thousands of gallons of water, energy, and labor.

ClearCOGS stands out as one of the only preventative food waste solutions for restaurants that also increases restaurant profits, making it sustainable and profitable.

Matt Wampler, CEO of ClearCOGS

We know that food waste isn’t just an environmental issue; it’s an efficiency problem. Solving it means restaurants save money, and the planet wins too. Restaurants don’t need to change everything—they just need better tools.

Quantification of Emissions Savings Based on Food Waste Prevention

Sustainability Fellowship

ClearCOGS participated in the 2023 Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and ReFED hosted Climate Corps Food Waste Fellowship. Climate Corps Fellow, McKenzie Huneke, analyzed ClearCOGS datasets alongside emissions factors from ReFED, WRAP, and Hestia in order to quantify levels of emission prevention.

On average, ClearCOGS customers saw an annual decrease in food waste of 4560 lbs, diverting greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to taking 18 cars off the road and water equivalent to about 46,000 showers.

The high societal costs associated with pollution places the average social savings per ClearCOGS customer at $19,000 annually.
